Mark studied Biology at Guilford College to begin a career in Medical Supply but instead found wine more interesting, which eventually led him to a career in wholesale wine sales to restaurants. Mark was recruited by a local wholesaler in Greensboro NC, and then moved back to his native DC to join Forman Brothers distribution company in northern VA.
Southern Slopes International hired Mark to work their expansive portfolio that included suppliers such as Caymus, Rutherford Hill, Prestige Wine Group, Chalk Hill and Groth.
As the Australian wine market heated up in the early 90’s and Mark joined Rosemount Estates as Director of Sales and Marketing where he headed up the mid-Atlantic division and eventually added the position of National Accounts Manager on-premise calling on customers like Mortons, The Steakhouse and Marriott International. It was here where Mark learned how to manage the business aspect of wine, by being responsible for managing budgets for both his regional territory and the national account restaurants, and accountable for profit & goal achievement.
In 1999 Mark became a partner at Click Wine Group in which created, developed and launched of several international wine brands like Fat Bastard, Root 1, and Clean Slate. In 2005 Mark went out on his own to found the Well Oiled Wine Company as his interest in the global wine market opened up the doors as a wine importer for several global brands, focusing primarily on Spanish, Chilean and Portuguese wines.
Mark founded Flavor Seekers where he continued his journey of discovering rare and high altitude winegrowing regions to deliver wines that are truly one of a kind from around the globe. He created and launched a new brand called Beaufort & Scott, the Altitude Series, which procured wines from all the famous high elevation vineyards in the world.
His newest venture is a marketing company called Both Barrels Wine Company (BBWC). A wine importer and agent focusing on family owned wineries from Spain, France, Washington State and California that impart unique flavor profiles, and that have a strong sense of place. BBWC’s list of duties are- distributor management, compliance, on & off premise chain calls, market visits, and brand launch.
He is a well-known and respected professional in the global wine business. If Mark is not popping a cork on an ancient-vine Garnacha from Spain, you will find him on the trail of Ernest Hemingway, fishing for Pelagics or free diving for Lionfish.
